Nickola Jane Voegelin is General Counsel at the University of Waterloo, a leading global innovation hub driving economic and social prosperity in Canada and around the globe. The University is home to the world’s largest co-operative education talent pipeline, to game-changing academic programs, research and technology, and to an unmatched innovative and entrepreneurial culture. 

As General Counsel, Nickola leads a team of legal professionals, is responsible for setting the University’s legal strategy, manages the global legal responsibilities, and leads the University’s robust privacy program. This critical work is being done in a complex environment driven by the University’s mission, Strategic Plan, and the bold vision for what the University aspires to be known for by its 100th anniversary, in 2057.

Nickola works with the president & vice-chancellor, vice-presidents, deans, executive council, and Board of Governors of the University and with whom Nickola’s offers her steady thought partnership. Nickola’s oversight is singularly focused on protecting the integrity of the University in its activities.
